How to figure out if my colleagues understand WLAN or not?

I'm a bit afraid that my colleagues don't really get the WLAN RF stuff as well they should. We're building a few new buildings with around 500 APs each (according to their plans), but I'd like to be sure they know what they are doing and not just clickling around in Ekahau and then installing APs based on that. I don't know much about WLAN myself but I know that understanding the RF stuff is really important.

I can't of course tell them that I suspect that they are not good enough in RF :) They of course might be even better than I think... So I'm wondering what would be the questions to ask to figure out how good they are? Like some general stuff that you need to understand, for example "have you considered turning 802.11 a/b/g off?"

They're good guys but I'm hoping we could get some outside company to do the AP planning and do the measurements after installing, if it seems that my colleagues are not up to that.

Also any tips for gaining better RF understanding are welcome so we could train the guys. I've heard Ekahau courses are really good?
