Let's say natural gas for the sake of the example. It's expensive to move from one place to another, so it would be better for the datacenter to be close to where it's extracted , am I right?
At the same time fiber is not nearly as expensive as a pipeline so it would make sense for the economics to lie on the side of energy generation, I think.
Note that I know that Data Centers are kinda new as far as infrastructure goes so they are placed near centers to take advantage of the existing pipelines/electric infrastructure, but suppose you had a new country to design from scratch and you'd goal is to optimize the ROI for datacenters. Would it be more efficient to concentrate datacenters near the area of energy generation and then run fiber to the population centers or the opposite?
