I am consulting for an office with five computers and a handful of printers. Router is a TP-Link Archer C7. I installed a Synology DiskStation NAS a few months ago that acts as a directory server and a DNS server. Everything was working fine when they closed up shop last Thursday, but as of Monday morning no wired computers could connect to the router or to the internet.
When attempting to renew their DHCP lease, they report they are unable to contact the DHCP server. When I set one computer with a static IP, it still could not connect to the gateway.
I get the feeling that there is some sort of DHCP conflict going on, but I have not found any other DHCP servers on the network. Wireless clients are unaffected - they still connect to the Archer and receive a DHCP lease and can connect to the internet without a problem.
They had this issue about a month ago and I was never able to definitively figure out the problem, but I replaced their ancient DSL modem/router/AP with the Archer and switched them over to a much faster cable internet plan. It appeared to work after that for about a month before having the same issue this morning.
I can connect remotely to the Archer and to the Synology through external access. However, no wired computer on site, even with a static IP, can connect to the Archer. I am pretty well out of ideas, and googling has not helped me find others with this specific issue. I hope someone reading this might have had a similar experience. Thanks.
