Trying to connect two home routers as one

I’m trying to connect my two routers through cat5e but I’m experiencing problems. I think it has to do with my very old Netgear router since the IP address is a weird 10.0.x.x instead of the more know 192.168.x.x. Does anyone know if this is the problem? If so please leave a link that will help
