Leveraging your position - career advice

Not early stage career so hopefully fine for this sub.

I'm working for a company, turnover couple £100m, 400 employees, 3 network staff (1 in USA , 2 in UK - me and my boss)

My boss is leaving shortly, and obviously I want to use that to my advantage. Take some of his responsibilities and some of the ££ obviously, while also having a say on who comes in to work with me in the UK . We have a number of large projects in the work which currently is all on me.

Anyone been in a similar situation and able to offer advice? I dont want to be a dick in the way I approach it
