Does anyone who has a good handle on the mechanics of powerline networks and how they work mind sharing some knowledge?
I've been studying OSPF recently and the configuration for NBMA networks. My study guide mentioned the most common types of NBMA being frame relay, x.25 and the powerline networks in your home.
This got me wondering as to how powerline actually works in a typical home network with a broadband router?
If I plug my laptop into a powerline plug how does it obtain an IP address from my home router when a DHCP discover message is broadcast? Isn't powerline supposed to be non-broadcast?
How does it actually work at layer 1 before layer 2 communication is established?
