Hey all. I’ve been reading in this sub for a while but only posted a few times.
I’m currently studying for the network+, and upon completion, hope to then go for my CCENT.
As I’m learning, I am wanting to practice at home.
I’m currently a syseng at a news company where I do all the layer 1 on site for networking and then broadcast network stand ups. Broadcast engineering is fun, but not really my cup of tea, and I’d like to lean more heavily into networking.
I have access to our switches onsite through SSH but I am not good enough to feel comfortable making changes, and therefore ask my network team. I have made mistakes before, and “practicing” on switches that have to support a 70+ person office as well as live broadcast nationally 4 times a week is not a good idea.
We are an all Cisco company, running 2960xr’s that are currently being replaced as they EOL with 9300 PoE+ switches.
What is an affordable switch that i could buy used and be able to replicate the exact same actions I’d be performing on these switches? I’d like something that will be relevant for at least another year because with my work schedule, studying is something I have to cram in when I find time, and don’t know if I’ll have both certifications within the year.
Thanks for your advice!
