Hello r/networking!
I am a co-op student at an automation company and have been asked to set up stratix switches for traffic control between devices on a machine being built. The goal is to have 5 separate VLANs each associated with devices between 192.168.1.xxx and 192.168.1.yyy. From what I understand the conventional way to configure this type of communication is by assigning each port on the switch to a VLAN. However, in our theoretical solution, the switch identifies the incoming IP address from each device and adds it to its corresponding VLAN. This allows wires to be swapped between ports without having to reassign Port- VLAN relationships.
The only problem is... I am having trouble figuring out how to define the relationship between the IP address of a device and the switch so that it gets added to the appropriate VLAN.
Within the device manager interface for these Allen-Bradley switches, the only obvious 'VLAN managaement' that exists is assigning ports directly to a VLAN.
If anyone has experience with this type of network management, or any ideas how I might be able to accomplish this, I'd love to hear what you have to say!
