The future of network engineering

Guys,

I am truly distraught. I have been studying networking for about a solid year and a half or so and I am about to finally land my first network engineering job. I have a CCNA route and switch as well.

However, I know there are a bunch of changes happening in the networking field. I keep hearing multiple things about how networking isn’t the field to go into. And cloud would be or security would be.

Even if cloud becomes big, don’t companies still need networking people to support their LANs before it gets to the cloud?

I guess I’m really looking for some answers as to the future of network engineering. I also want to join a field where I can have at least one full time gig and have a remote gig on the side. Will it work in networking?

People keep discouraging me. I need answers at this point.
