Learning Cisco

Hi there,

I'm an aspiring network engineer, and currently we use Juniper SRXs for firewalls and Extreme Switches for switching. I recently got my JNCIA certification because I fell in love with JunOS, it's really easy to use, also the commit feature is a life saver.

Here is my dilemma though:

In the next few years I'm going to move to a different country and hopefully get hired as a Network Engineer again. My issue is that almost all the job descriptions I read said that I need to know Cisco/Palo Alto/etc. I'm a bit worried about my skill set, so I started studying Cisco in Packet Tracer, simulating the complex network we have at my current company.

My question is, how can I study Cisco effectively? I learned about the different OS's Cisco has with different commands, syntax, etc, so I would like to ask about your opinion on the topic.

Some people said it's okay if I don't know about specific manufacturers, it's enough just to know the basics and be willing to learn, but I do not know if that's true.

Thanks for your feedback lads.
