Management wants nice single pane of glass view of the network - WWYD?

Management being management would like to have a nice graphical single pane of glass sort of view from the network. Where they could easily see how the whole network is and was yesterday, and if everything is in order. I thought about just doing a google map for them and adding green balloons here and there and let them scroll there until they get bored after two days...

However on second thought, it would probably mean that there is some kind of budget for this. We currently have Nagios based SNMP/script monitoring system and we're evaluating AKiPS. AKiPS is quite technical though for them :)

How would you go about upgrading the monitoring system to next level? So that it would actually help the engineers too?

I'm thinking about active monitoring (for example Netbeez, Netrounds) or doing Grafana dashboards for the important stuff (if I can get data from AKiPS). I've also purchased couple Aruba UX devices to see what they could do. Also interested in hearing about the OSS solutions, are there anything that could be used for example Skype performance testing?

There isn't a single issue I'm trying to fix here, but rather to develop the monitoring to better answer the question "was it the network?"

Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks!
