FYP Suggestions

So, I am on the beginning phases of the third year for my courses on Networking and IT Security from LondonMet, and the whole year is supposedly based on a Final Year Project that has to be related with the security factor.

I have had a lot of thoughts put into what I want the project to be, but I don't think it quite ranks up to what I want it to be.

Original idea: To have a network monitor system for a small/medium organization or home systems.

The user will be able to monitor the incoming and outgoing packets, the active devices based on MAC, and have IDS built in to prevent attacks and provide the option of second level encryption is the communicating partners are running the same server.

The whole system is to be super simple to use with clean GUI and great UX

Problem: The teacher thinks that the project is viable but what is the goal to create such a system and my fellow colleagues think that it has been done before.

Also, a mate is creating a similar system. So, yeah.

I would love a completely new suggestion or modifications I can make or heck even a whole tutoring session if anyone is up for it.

As for my capabilities, I work python, java, a slight knowledge of OOP, c++ and everything to do with CCNA
