Hey guys, I'm a student studying networking still, so sorry if this question seems simple or doesn't even make sense. I'm curious as to why routers operate at Layer 3 and switches operate at layer 2. I get the purposes of each and understand the roles of the layers, but it seems out of order to me. Does data not first travel to a switch and then a router typically? How does the router come before the switch when looking at the OSI model?
Thanks for any help and let me know if I need to clarify/reword anything!
