Curious to peoples' thoughts on this one - we have some spare Nexus switches in stock. We're also in the process of upgrading a FTTP network. We were planning to use ASR920 but our feature set is minimal as it's a pure ethernet fibre service to the customer.
Any reason why I couldn't use a Nexus 3172 instead of a 920? They support BGP (we wouldn't be anywhere close to a full table), DHCP, VLANs, NTP, 1G transceivers etc.
They cost less than the ASR920, have a higher port density, and give us the option to offer >1G speeds in the future (unlikely but nice to have).
L2 goes only as far as the PE, so is there a need for an L2 services optimised device?
