I know its a bit of a weird question but it's something I'm having difficulty with. I've been a netadmin for about 8 years now in a Cisco shop. I've also spent about 6 months going through some Udemy courses on python along with some books on python. I've been gearing up to start automating things, but I've yet to mix them in any way.
What I'm struggling with is..... the vision. Most of the stuff I do, does not necessarily need to be automated. I watched a youtube video from David Bomball where he showed how to make a loop to make potentially hundreds of vlans.... Which is cool and I get it but where I'm at, were not necessarily growing. I mean... we add/replace maybe one or two network devices a year so do I really need to go out of my way to write a ton of scripts?
So I guess what I'm asking is, are there any books or courses that are SPECIFIC to network automation? While I see how it can be applied in some situations, I just keep asking myself "Why write a script? It'l only take 20 minutes and then this device is configured for the next (insert months / years here).
