I am having to deal with a surge in IoT demand from workplace services. First we have been asked to help deploy the amazon IoT buttons. They are used for conference rooms for notifying the help desk of broken or malfunctioning equipment. We created a vlan with firewall rules and a 60 character PSK to make InfoSec happy.
The problem is a few new devices. They want to talk to each other with small multicast bursts via 224.0.0.1. On a non-WLC based wifi setup, this works fine. But when using WLC, I don't see multicast or broadcast on my wireshark client at all. Even when the global broadcast forwarding is enabled, I still do not see any packets. There is one device that is listening for the multicast and broadcasts,, which works on a simple consumer AP, but none of those packets are getting across the wifi on my WLC setup.
P2P blocking for that wifi is disabled, I have tried a lot of things. I'm experimenting on a cisco 2504 controller (used at a smaller site), and not having any luck.
Has anyone else had to deal with "consumer level" IoT devices on a WLC based wifi?
