G'day!
I have a unique scenario that I would love to get thoughts and opinions on. We have a 'core' network design consisting of two Arista 7050SX-72Q units in MLAG operation. We have a 10Gbps IX connection and three 1Gbps transit connections into these two devices.
As a result of the IX bringing on HE.net, we have had to disable the connectivity to the IX route servers and therefore the IX entirely, using it only as an expensive cross connect into those which we peer directly (Cloudflare, Fastly, Apple).
I would like to see this IX being used more heavily - as we pay for it - and wonder where we go from here. Do we grab a few Arista 7280R on the second hand market and add them as a 'transit layer' as recommended by a few friends in the industry? Do we grab a Mikrotik or EdgeRouter and how do they go in production workloads at 10Gbps (3-4Gbps typical)? What would you do to fix this scenario with less than 20k?
