Multimode fiber to copper convertor

I need to connect a Siemens PLC with the network of another building. The PLC has a CP443-1 card where a copper RJ45 cable runs to a Moxa (IMC-21M-SC) media converter. From there, a multimode optical cable is run to another building in a SFP port on a Siemens X308 Switch. (the distance is approximately 140m)

The problem is we're unable to establish a connection. Both Switch and CP card don't detect any traffic, from their point of view it looks like no cable is attached.

There is no fault in the cable, this is already checked with an OTDR. Also, if we don't make use of a media converter and we directly connect the fiber optic cable in a SFP port on the other side, we have a valid link. (with the same cable!) We've already tried to make use of another Media Converter (Siemens X101-1) which also doesn't work.

Now comes the strange part, If i make use of 2 media convertors and go from copper -> fibber -> copper I'm able to establish a connection. This is the only solution that works now but it looks like a very bad practise to make use of 2 media convertors in 1 link.

Anyone can help me out troubleshooting this issue? Thanks in advance!
