Hi folks!
I'm putting together a small office network and have only one question left: Are firewalls still worth it in 2019?
I've been watching lots of videos about network architectures and reading articles about it, but honestly I only see firewalls mentioned in article from Cisco or "respectable" newspapers, probably because, let's face it, they have an interest in selling firewalls. They haven't even been mentioned in videos from respectable youtube channels who basically install office networks and sell internet to people for a living so if they don't need it for 30 people office, why would i need it for 4? I also read articles saying that the router has a better and faster firewall then the actual firewall machines, which makes traditional firewalls not only absolete in this day and age (against modern attacks), but also a bottleneck in the system.
Also taking into consideration the monetary part of the hardware, plus the software that I need to get a subscription for and everything, I would much rather just not get a firewall at all, but I'm asking you if you've seen the absolute need for firewalls lately and in what circumstance?
Thanks!
