Since I am buying this refurb/second hand market, its been tough getting advice on capabilities from the vendors.
Obviously, as an edge router the biggest concern is the ability to handle multiple full BGP tables, at least 2, maybe 3. Line card wise, I only need to handle a mix of 10G and 1G, total upstream capacity is only around 40G.
Its been really hard to find the specs online, I was hoping some people could chime in.
On the ASR1006, I know I would need at least the RP2 to handle full tables, not sure how effectively that will perform, or if I need to go up to the RP3.
On the ASR9006, it gets very confusing... as there are many RSP options, but I cant find hard specs online regarding CPU/cores and limits on IPv4/v6 prefixes. The obvious chooses would be the A9K-RSP-8G, the A9k-RSP-440-SE, I assume I want service edge optimized not transport packet. Then there are the line cards for the ASR9006, to stay within my budget I'll be most likely limited to the Trident cards, which then in turn come in the -L, -B, and -E variants. Again, if I do -L Trident based cards, how will that effect my BGP route capabilties, or does it not matter. This edge device only pushes a few Gbps, but it will have 30-40Gbps of burst capabiltiy, and mutliple full tables.
