Most of the data center servers we have use L3 switch HSRP address as gateway. But there is one data center in my network they use firewall as the gateway. My predecessor worked for a firewall vendor before became a network engineer in my company. Any server that needs to connect to a firewall is using the firewall as the gateway in stead of the L3 switch HSRP address. It seems to be working this way for years.
Is there any difference? Or both are acceptable design?
