Inconsistent networking with OmniOS

I hope someone can shed some light on this. I have HP 10G cards in my storage nodes and in my proxmox compute node. My storage nodes are running OmniOS (latest version), and the issue resides on the storage node side. I can configure networking on the storage node side, and it will work for a while. However, after a reboot *sometimes* the connection breaks down and show-addr and show-link shows "inaccessible" and "down" respectively. It's just a 10.0.1.x static IP directly connected to another 10.0.1.x static on the proxmox side. It doesn't make sense to me that it works sometimes. The cards are NetXen 3031 and illumos has these cards listed on their compatibility list. What else am I missing?
