I work as an IT person on a rather large school campus (2500 users). Not as a network engineer. We currently have a mix of old and new (but entry-level) switches and we are considering a mayor overhaul of our networking equipment (and upgrade to L3). We have been looking at Cisco, Juniper and HP Aruba. Aruba is the only brand we probably could afford, but we'd prefer Cisco since some of our old equipment is donated Cisco switches. The Cisco WS-C3750X-48PF-L (for example) is currently available refurbished for around 350 euros ex VAT. Would these switches still be considered a smart buy/investment? We know they are end-of-life and will not be supported after 2021, but our Cisco 3750 from 2006 (or around that year) still work flawlessly. New HP Aruba or EOL Cisco? Any advice is very welcome.
