What's the difference between RFoG and PON?

Is RFoG a type of PON? Is it the same thing as RFPON? How does it differ from the more popular GPON or EPON?

Is RFoG true FTTH? The reason I ask is because RFoG still uses coax, still requires a modem as it's an analog signal, still uses DOCSIS, and doesn't offer symmetrical gigabit.

Whereas a GPON service is a direct fibre connection which doesn't require a modem since it's an all digital Ethernet signal. All you'd need is a media converter to switch from SFP/SFP+ to RJ45. That, to me, is true fibre to the home.

Sorry if this is the wrong sub, I'm not sure where else to ask this.
