I’m getting alerts indicating that one port in the port channel has high outbound packet discards. Data is flowing from a customer machine to a data indexer. I’ve checked the port-channel configuration multiple times and all appears to be correct. Other port-channels for other data indexers seem to be balancing the load between ports when I compare their input / output statistics. The port-channel consists of 2, 1GB links.
From what I’ve gathered, data traversing etherchannels is based off of flows and data from one flow can only utilize a single port. Therefore, I’m wondering if this is normal behaviour since all of the data is going from point a to point b and the 1GB link is getting over saturated and discarding outbound packets towards the data indexer.
I’m just unsure why the other port-channels connecting to other data indexers are not getting outbound packet discards on one of the links. The default on this 3850 is based on source MAC address for the flows. I don’t think that’s the issue as other port-channels are not having issues.
Any ideas guys?
