I recently received a newsletter from Ubiquiti touting their new XG range of APs and highlighting that the capacity of these APs is 1500 clients per unit.
I'll admit that I haven't tested one of these units myself but as a Wi-Fi specialist I want to let the newbies and other non-WiFi specialists know that it is highly unlikely that 1500 devices connected to the same AP are going to be having a good time. I saw that this AP has 4 radios so personally I could not be convinced that it can support more than 200 connections without major issues.
I assume that the number 1500 is the size of something like an internal CAM table, and the marketing people have latched onto the number. Don't you hate when they do stuff like that?
So please be careful and research basic WiFi theory before purchasing.
Sincerely,
The guy who has to come clean up the mess after you try to provide coverage to your entire stadium using 6 of these units.
