Professional disconnect of the OSI layers specifically Network Engineers to Telecommunications Techs

Do you feel there is a professional "disconnect" amongst peers in the networking profession? As someone who has worked as a lineman/telco splicer/network engineer/telecommunications engineer I have noticed a pattern of Network Engineers believing Telecommunications Techs are dimwits to Telecommunication Techs regarding Network Engineers as over thinkers. What can we do as professionals to bridge that gap? Cheers
