[need advice] with router + switch with vlans

Hey guys,

I recently bought a switch (SMCGS24C-Smart) which is capable of using vlans. I've configured all vlans and that seems to work just fine now.

The problem I'm having is how to connect the switch to a router. I used to think that I could use a home router and connect it to a trunked port and that the vlans would split up from there on. Now I think I have to get a router which understands vlan's and configure it on the router, than connect to a trunked port on the switch.

Am I missing something? Is it possible to use vlans with a router that doesn't get it? I'm fairly new to using this equipment so I'm figuring out how it all works :)
