Could I go straight from a switch to a PC in this diagram.

I am wondering if i can go from a switch directly to my PC. My school has very problematic Access Points and I need a more reliable connection in order to run some automation software I need for my side business. I have an access point in my room, and an Ethernet cord runs to it.

I'm thinking of running a splitter before the cord reaches the Access Point, and attaching one end of the splitter to the Access Point, and then attaching the other end to my PC. I'm looking at this diagram provided by Cisco and I believe this is similar to the network my school uses.
