Accessing a subnet from outside using an openvpn server

Hi,
right now I'm working in an hospital for some data research.
Sadly, the database is in a subnet accessible only from the intranet.

I'm thinking about using a DynDns server with an open vpnserver installed on my laptop, that I'll leave in the lab, to connect from home and be able to keep working even when the lab is closed.

Could this works?
