Hey folks,
we‘re receiving some brand new MX204‘s next week and are looking for the best way to deploy them as core routers. May I ask you to share your ideas and best-practice approaches?
We‘re currently using 2 ISPs with BGP default routes only on a EX virtual chassis. With the new gear we would like to switch to full tables. The current vc‘ed EX stack is high-available by design.
Our new routers should be connected to an 7050 Arista MCLAG with 40 Gbps ports only. Currently our plan is to collect the existing 2 ISPs as well as all future ISPs at those Arista switches and use an 2x 40 Gbps channel to each MCLAG member from the new routers which will result in having only 2 ports used of each of the MX204‘s.
We‘re still unsure about the redundancy concept, easiest way would be to configure each router on its own, use iBGP between both routers and use e.g. VRRP for the layer2 subnets. But there are also VC and MCLAG features available.
I would be very happy if you would share your setups / ideas / recommendations.
Cheers
