I am a noob when it comes to networking, which is why I’m posting here and looking for some help.
I have a Win10 PC on my network sharing a “network drive” and running a PLEX server. I got the urge to play around with things so I started down the YouTube black hole. I spent an embarrassing amount of time watching other people show off their networks, network closets, … … I felt inadequate. It all looked really cool.
I want to convert my Win10 box to a ProxMox environment and run a pfsense guest as my router and a Mint Linux guest for my PLEX server.
I have 2x 4TB WD Reds in Windows as a redundant storage pool. What should I do with these disks? Should I purchase a standalone NAS system? Should I just set them up in Linux and share them with the network? Is there a “NAS-ish” guest I can run along side the other two? What benefits do I get with a standalone NAS?
