I know the terms MPLS, 10G, and cheap don't go together, but if building a new metro 10G networking on a shoe string budget, what are the options available today?
Ideally we are looking for something with at least 4 10G ports, and full MPLS support. Budget would be under $5K, the lower the better.
Cisco seems to have options as IOS-XR supports MPLS as of 16.3. I know about the c3650 and C3850 from other reddit post. Are these the best options, or there other Cisco switches that run IOS-XR?
Others on reddit have recommended the HPE switches as they have a full MPLS stack in Comware. HPE seems hard to navigate or even get a sales engineer to contact, so I have not clue what the options are? They sell multiple lines, and I am note sure which models do and don't have MPLS support?
Juniper has full MPLS in the ACX line, but those are expensive. The EX4600 and QFX5100 has MPLS support, but its not full featured and also expensive.
I am not going to consider Mikrotik as they don't seem enterprise/carrier grade thought they do fit the budget. I have heard their MPLS stack is half baked. Everything is done in software, and not hardware support.
Any other vendors to consider?
