Hi folks,
I'm in a situation where i've handled wireless for quite a few years, but im by no means a "Wireless engineer." So, I have a question around design and subnet size.
For background, we run all Cisco wireless gear for wireless. Size is currently around 1700 clients at our largest site. Anywhere from 200-500 in other sites.
We have experienced quite a bit of growth, and im not in the position where I need to settle on a standard that will hopefully hold up for the years to come. We used to use /23's until that wasnt enough, then i split things up per floor basically into /23's per floor, but that obviously makes seamless roaming a problem, and so on. So now, i want to just pick something and stick with it. In terms of usage -- it's as easy as it gets. I have zero requirements other than just standard intranet/internet access. No voice, no video, no crazy anything. It's as easy as it gets in that respect. For simplicity sake, assume one SSID for guest (internet only), and ond SSID for employee access (802.1x internal resources etc).
What are all of you doing in that respect? I'd love to just go with a /21 per SSID because of the simplicity of management. My concern is just over performance when using such large subnets like that. We use local mode in our primary site, but are converting to 100% flexconnect.
Any input on subnet size specifically for wireless would be appreciated.
