What ports are 'fiber optic' ports?

So for internet cables using copper we have RJ-45/Ethernet ports. What about fiber optic? I've Googled this and I got at least 6 different connector types. I've seen networking equipment with SPF ports as well which apparently could be copper or fiber optic. So what's going on here? Which port is actually the 'standard' used for network purposes? Thanks
