QOS enthusiast here. I have been examining traffic that needs real time QOS priority. Some applications can easily have source and destination ports identified through Wireshark but I took a look at some Skype packets and found them difficult to define as ports seemed to change.
It was then I started thinking, why not just prioritise all UDP traffic? After all by nature UDP is built for speed and all related traffic would be voice or video anyway. If you had a 10Mbps upload, would it be acceptable to allocate half the bandwidth to UDP? Would be there be any reasons why this would be unwise?
