I hope this is allowed here (as I'm certainly not an IT pro) but I've been tasked with gathering/comparing quotes and ultimately choosing a company to install cabling and network components in our new office.
What I'm most confused about, after looking through these quotes line item by line item, is the IT room hardware. Quote 1 has two patch panels (24 port and 48 port) for $40 and $74 respectively. Quote 2 has these same items for $199 and $299. Q1 has a 4 post rack for $700 and Q2 has the same for $399.
Both of these quotes work out to a similar total, so I'm trying to decipher whether the price indicates the quality of these components and whether it really matters anyhow. For example, is a patch panel a patch panel, or is it worth it to spend more on a "nicer" unit?
How do y'all generally price out hardware items in your quotes and is there a quote you'd lean towards based on how they price these items out?
