We have DSL which connects to a Netopia 3000 modem/router, which goes through a Netgear FVS318 Firewall, then to an ethernet switch which connects to all of the computers on our network.
A week ago, the Netopia modem completely died. We had a spare one lying around, which I was able to connect, and we were up and running with almost no problems.
The only issue is that we run an FTP server on one computer on the network, and now it's not working. No one is able to connect to the FTP server externally or internally. A domain name is used to connect to the server (ftp.ourdomain.com), and I've contacted the host to make sure our external IP address is connected to the domain.
I've set up a pinhole on the Netopia router, as well as added the port on the Netgear firewall. Unfortunately, I cannot get the FTP server to work. I've checked every setting I can think of on the modem/router and the firewall, but nothing will make it work. I'm sure there's something simple I'm missing. Can anyone help?
Please excuse my ignorance... I have no background in networking. I'm just the de facto IT guy for a small business.
