Hello,
Having a bit of a discussion about FCDID.
So in my opinion, you have to have a unique value in the whole fabric (the point we all agree on in the discussion).
But the assignment is a bit of a discussion. I saw in the document of configuring Fabric Channel Domain ID's a clear indication that they are assigned per switch in the fabric.
The document is this one: http://ift.tt/2zAuQsl
I will quote: The fcdomain has four phases: • Principal switch selection—This phase guarantees the selection of a unique principal switch across the fabric. • Domain ID distribution—This phase guarantees that each switch in the fabric obtains a unique domain ID. • FC ID allocation—This phase guarantees a unique FC ID assignment to each device attached to the corresponding switch in the fabric. • Fabric reconfiguration—This phase guarantees a resynchronization of all switches in the fabric to ensure they simultaneously restart a new principal switch selection phase.
So this should tell me that the ID's are assigned per switch in the fabric.
But a co-worker is pretty sure that they are assigned per Vsan, at this time i don't have an MDS switch at my disposal to verify everything so..
Anyone can shed some light on this?
