Setting up new colo site - BGP vs static routing?

I'm still pretty new to networking, so forgive me if these are basic questions - I'm still learning.

We have a new colo site, that we're using to host VMs for internal testing/QA. It's around a rack full of equipment (switches, servers, storage etc.) and we'd likely

For earlier sites, we used static IP routing, with a /29 - our border router/firewall got an address, and the idea was we could also assign IPs to specific VMs if they needed an externally routable IP address.

For the new site, we're being asked by the provider if we want BGP or static routing.

I thought this might be a good chance to learn about BGP and internet routing in general.

If this is a stub site - are there any advantages to BGP over static routes?

For BGP - there's asking me about my AS number, and what IPv4/IPv6 prefixes to be advertised. Is this stuff we should already have? And how do I get a routable block of IPv4 addresses? (Or whatever the equivalent here is)

(My work has AS numbers, but I'm not sure about IP blocks. I also don't want to sound like an idiot when I go ask - so would like an idea of what I should be asking for, or any articles I should read first).

Also, later on, we might add connectivity to cloud providers, which would require setting up BGP routes as well, right?

Are there any articles/books/videos suitable for a newbie here, that would at least teach me the basics of what I should be asking for?
