Hey networking guys,
I'm a complete networking novice whose recently taken the helm of "all of IT" at a small business. I take care of automation, system admin, help desk, light dev work, etc. My biggest weakness is networking and I have no idea where to start!
our network has a triple failover with 3 different levels of speed, 500 mbps, 10 mbps, 5 mbps. I have a test lab that I've set up and I'm using an unmanaged switch to get all of my devices going. However, I'm getting 500mbps on my work PC, 5 mbps to my centOS server, and 100 mbps to a laptop.
I've done some investigative work and I have found other workstations through the environment that most are running 100mbps, and 5 mbps, with a few peppered in 100mbps
The IDFs are all running cisco switches, but the MDF is running Cisco and Dell switches with a HA SonicWalls at the forefront of it all.
How and where would I start figuring out why half of the environment is getting 5 mbps and the other half is getting the what seems to be intentional 100mbps, and then some getting the speckled in 500?
