We have a Filemaker DB (I know I know) that is still in general use at my company. It's one of the only 'IT' things that IT has no control over (it's all political). Anyway, there's this one function within the app that runs in about 5 seconds when used at the same site as the server, residing on a gigabit switch. However, when run externally via VPN or at our 2nd office (over a 50MB EPL/MPLS from Comcast) it takes about 2 minutes.
The latency site-site is 55ms and we are getting our 50MB as advertised speed. When coming in from the net over a VPN the latency is oftentimes better than that even. I ran a wireshark from site-site for this app when loading up this particular feature. It's sending/receiving a total of about 6,000 packets when you press this one button.
I guess I'm trying to figure out if this is just poorly designed or if there's something I can do to help 'speed up' how quickly the router is handling the connections.
