Signed certificate for switches

I'm still new to networking so I'm not sure about this.

When using the command "crypto key generate rsa modulus 2048", can I use an SSL wildcard certificate instead for Cisco switches (2960, 3560x, 3750)

Another thing is, does that RSA key expire?
