This is a post about my home network, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't belong in the "but muh linksys" department :)
My cable ISP killed my home service yesterday because of "interference coming from the home"... So far, all of the support and dispatch people I've talked to have characterized the situation interchangeably as either:
- Your home is causing interference to other subscribers on the coaxial cable plant.
- Our signal is leaking from your home, causing unwanted (regulated?) RF emissions in the area around your home.
Anybody happen to know:
- Which of those options is likely closer to describing the issue (probably the second one)?
- What sort of tools are involved in tracking it down?
- What the diagnostic process looks like?
- The RF threshold at which point it can be declared "fixed"?
- What sort of inside wiring issue triggers an event like this?
On that last point... Simply unscrewing the coax cable from the back of a TV creates a point of RF energy leakage, right? These leaks must be everywhere. What sort of screwup does it take to land on the "must remediate" list? I certainly don't have any 6 foot lengths of stripped wire connected to a cable socket...
