Hi everyone,
I'm a sysadmin that is assisting with a network design for my organization to "share" a new office location with another partner agency. Management of both orgs are dead set on sharing the space to allow either staff member to be able drop down at any workstation that's available and work for the day. Aside from the issues in terms of hardware (we are an HP shop with UltraSlim docking stations, are they an HP shop? Do they have EliteBook's? who knows...). I'm looking to determine if such a solution is even viable.
How exactly would a network like this look? Is it even possible to have something like a managed switch determine what machine has jacked in and send it to 1 firewall instead of the other? I'm trying to find a solution that will allow us to avoid running 2 structured cable runs to each workstation and asking the staff member to jack in whatever cable goes back to their network nest. Any suggestions are very much appreciated.
