Quick Question

So at one of my sites, our ISP pulled fiber to our server room. This circuit acts as a DIA. At the fiber patch panel, they split the pair of fiber, and terminated each strand to a SFP module on two stacked Juniper switches. My question is, what is the purpose of splitting the fiber and terminating it to two switches that are stacked?
