Disclaimer: very much anti passive ethernet devices in production
I've seen a couple environments where ethernet splitters were being used in bulk to connect something on the order of 96 devices to a 48 port switch
What I was wondering is if an ethernet splitter can be used client side, assuming the network only turns on one of the two ports. The scenario is thus: server(s) in a small facility with an HA firewall appliance pair that has an abundance of ports. The host ethernet connections are split into LAG groups across the pair to guarantee things work smoothly. However, HA is somewhat temperamental as to which host it's making the master, and I'd like to guarantee availability of the ILO interfaces. Thinking was ILO --- ethernet spliter ---- matched ports on the HA pair. Does this work predictably with gigabit NICs, or am I dabbling in the black arts?
Yes, I know this is rather stupid. But intermittently losing emergency management interfaces isn't my idea of a good time.
