[Meta] People here are getting better about upvoting parent comments they reply to!

I've posted complaints about this ages ago, but anecdotally I've seen a trend towards upvoting parent comments that contribute to discussion. Historically /r/networking has been bad about upvoting comments/posts that actually contribute to discussion, so I'm happy to see interesting comments getting more love.

Just a reminder:

  • If you reply to a comment, whether you agree with it or not, upvote the comment you reply to if it's contributing to the discussion. If the person clarifies in a later reply, you might want to go back and change your vote so people can find/see what you're talking about.
  • If you reply to a post, it's sparked a discussion (even if the post is shit). Obviously you shouldn't be upvoting posts that break Reddit's or the subreddit's rules, but I've been extremely surprised seeing lots of posts with 25+ comments and less than 10 points. Don't forget you're upvoting for visibility, not agreement, and lots of networking n00bs could use the context you're providing. If it's a redundant topic, links to another relevant post are your best weapon.

Overall, though, I've been extremely happy with how things are kept on-topic and how responses are a tad less cynical (while sometimes being just a little cynical; sort of part of the territory, I guess).

Stay classy, /r/networking. :)
