ISP - Routing within an AS

Apologies if this post goes off-track from the title but not sure what else to title it but here goes....

I work for a company which runs, among other things, a small ISP. I’ve been here a few months and this is my first exposure to ISP networking first hand. I took part in a call today with a consultant that had been hired to do a network audit on our core infrastructure(basically 4 routers spread over 2 dc’s arranged in a square)

He asked why we were redistributing static and connected routes into iBGP, I had no answer so I went off to investigate and see what was going one.

My findings were that when we assign a customer an IP range (usually a /29) we are then exporting the connected route to that subnet into iBGP so that all 4 core routers learn how to get there.

My question, is this standard practise?
