I have inherited a situation that is pretty messy.
I do not have measurement tool for fiber, nor a lot of experience.
Installation of single mode fiber between two sites. Distance between buildings is less than 5000ft. On either end is SM media converter with a spec of 20km.
Not sure what to do. Can I just leave it? Is it over powered? Is there a risk of burning up transceivers? Will there be signal loss?
Bottom line, what is the correct installation for a short distance single mode fiber connection?
The installation is connected to a nice HP switch. My inclination is to find some sfp for the switch and connect it directly rather than use the media converters.
